    • Inventory and orders : manage dental supplies inventory, check stock levels and order as necessary.
    • Equipment : maintain dental equipment in working order, report any malfunctions.

Training and qualifications required to become a dental assistant

Career paths

To become a dental assistant, you need to have a minimum level of schooling equivalent to the "brevet des collèges". However, some training centers may require a Baccalaureate.

Once you have completed your schooling, if you wish to continue your studies as a dental assistant, you must enroll in a training center specialized in dental assistantship. This program, which lasts between 18 and 24 months, can be followed on a sandwich basis, combining theoretical learning with practical experience in a dental practice.   • Multi-purpose health centers: the dental assistant works in coordination with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Dental clinics: the dental assistant assists more specialized practitioners than elsewhere, and learns to work with state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Hospitals: dental assistants work alongside specialized dentists. They take part in complex procedures and in the care of hospitalized patients.
  • Training centers: the AD helps train future dental assistants.
  • The humanitarian sector: ADs can take part in humanitarian missions to provide dental care to disadvantaged populations or in crisis situations.
