Training and qualifications required to become a dental assistant

Career paths

To become a dental assistant, you need to have a minimum level of schooling equivalent to the "brevet des collèges". However, some training centers may require a Baccalaureate.

Once you have completed your schooling, if you wish to continue your studies as a dental assistant, you must enroll in a training center specialized in dental assistantship.   • Dental clinics: the dental assistant assists more specialized practitioners than elsewhere, and learns to work with state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Hospitals: dental assistants work alongside specialized dentists. They take part in complex procedures and in the care of hospitalized patients.
  • Training centers: the AD helps train future dental assistants.
  • The humanitarian sector: ADs can take part in humanitarian missions to provide dental care to disadvantaged populations or in crisis situations.
