The status of the neurologist

In France, the métier of neurologist can be practiced under different statutes:

  • Salaried: a neurologist may work as a salaried employee in private or public structures such as hospitals, clinics or health centers. In this case, they are employed by the organization and receive a fixed salary. This status often offers benefits such as job stability, regular working hours and fringe benefits.
  • Libéral : the neurologist can practice as a libéral, either by opening his or her own practice, or by joining an existing practice as an associate. This status offers greater autonomy in practice management and patient selection. However, it also entails responsibilities such as business management, operating costs and financial risks.
