What training do you need to become an audioprosthetist?
Before you can apply for a job offer for an audioprosthetist, you need to follow a rigorous academic course, consisting of the following steps:
- Baccalauraurate;at : this is the starting point for aspiring to a career as an audioprosthetist. The bac S (scientific) or the bac ST2S (sciences and technologies of health and social work) are particularly recommended, as they offer a good foundation in the sciences.
- Classes préparatoires ou année de préparation : after the baccalaureate, future audioprosthetists can go through a year of préparation. This is not compulsory, but is strongly recommended to reinforce knowledge of biology, physics and mathematics.
- Entrée en école d’audioprothésiste : access to this training program is offered in 9 French cities (Paris, Lille, Lyon, Cahors, Nancy, Montpellier, Bordeaux and Fougères). Admission is difficult (only 300 per year) and is by application via the ParcourSup platform.
- Formation en école d’audioprothésiste : it lasts three years and includes theoretical instruction in physics, mathematics and anatomy, as well as 50 weeks of internships in hospitals, hearing centers and practices, to prepare students for their future careers. At the end of the program, students are awarded a diploma in audiology, and can go on to practice or specialize thanks to a university diploma.
Quels débouchés pour l’audioprothésiste?
Once graduated, audioprosthetists can work in various environments such as:
- Léral : many audioprosthetists choose to work on a freelance basis, opening their own practice or joining an existing structure. This option offers great autonomy and the chance to develop a loyal client base. Freelance audioprosthetists can also collaborate with ENTs and other healthcare professionals to offer complementary ranges of care to patients.
- Salaried employment : other audioprosthetists prefer salaried employment, working in hearing centers, hospitals or specialized clinics. Salaried employment offers a certain degree of financial stability, as well as access to ongoing training.
- Research and teaching : audioprosthetists can move into research or teaching, in order to contribute to technological innovation and the training of future audioprosthetists.
